People have short memories. Yet at the time it was a huge political issue. the Howard gov had control of both the lower house and the senate, and therefore a dictatorial free reign over Australia. This the crowning achievement of years of political scaremongering, demonisation, divisive, racist, xenophobic, crap. They had won a mandate to do whatever they wanted. They hoisted on the millions of Australian workers a doublespeak concoction called WorkChoices. Some union activities became illegal. People were put on individual contracts trading away years of hard fought for entitlements and conditions for a few $ extra pay a week. Leaving many many people much worse off.
Well you know what? If you voted for Abbott believing that he had no intention of introducing WorkChoices Mark 2, then you've been conned. Big time. It won't be called WorkChoices for sure, but it'll be worse.
The last hope now is the Western Australian federal senate election re-run. Abbott can't do a thing if he can't pass legislation and will be forced to the polls if the senate blocks supply of said legislation. Just one Lieberal senator losing their last Sept close win will do it. Come on WA!
Meanwhile.... A little trip back to 2010..... My how Abbot changes his spots....not...... Is pretty much what's happened here is that Abbott actually thinks it's OK to lie when you're playing the political game. But once it's over the facade comes off and he goes "Surprise! I fooled you! Ha ha, only politics, no hard feelings, bla....." Then claiming a mandate.....
