Turnbull gov approves giant Adani coal mine for Queensland - urgent court action

All the environmentalists fears in Australia and the world have now come to fruition, with the Turnbull gov approving the giant Adani coal mine in Queensland.

Apart from the immediate environmental destruction to the Great Barrier Reef (dredging the thing to get giant coal ships through) there is the long term destruction of the Reef from global warming when all that coal is burnt. Turnbull has snubbed his nose at the Paris climate talks, our South Pacific Island neighbours, and all people of the world who are and will be affected by climate change. Including the Queensland tourism industry.

This is the project that no private bank wanted to touch. In the face of that Turnbull is now putting up public taxpayer money to aid Adani in wrecking the Reef and the planet. This is madness, total insanity. Never before has Australia seen such a blatant example of corporate power over our federal government. The Lieberals have become nothing more than their puppets.

Needless to say, GetUp will be taking urgent court action to stop this. The approval has been pushed through without even considering in the Environmental Impact Statement the second secret port only recently discovered in a freedom of information release. From the GetUp email:
BREAKING: The Turnbull Government just approved Adani's Abbot Point coal port on the Great Barrier Reef coast.

Only days ago, we discovered the Queensland Government was hiding plans to build a secret second port for Adani. If it goes ahead, it will mean another enormous dredging project in Reef waters, and untold damage to marine life.

Unbelievably, there's no mention of this second port in the new approval, but the Environment Minister pushed it through in the face of this glaring omission anyway.

He's trying to sneak this destructive dredging project through just days before Christmas, and he's hoping we won't notice.

Well, he's got another thing coming, because we've stopped his bogus approvals in court before, and we can do it again. Chip in now to help fight Adani in court.
