Sochi Sponsors worried

Finally. some sort of movement on the issue, albeit slowly. The major US sponsors at the gulag Olympics are starting to shit themselves at WTF is going to happen to their brand, when they associate themselves with a regime that wants to take the children off a vulnerable minority. I don't blame them. How could anyone with a conscience be in any way part of that? Surely it's guilt by association?

I laughed when it said "modern state". It's positively medieval. How the fuck Putin thinks that he can get away with what he's doing and look "modern" is beyond me.
The Russian law, which forbids the dissemination of information on homosexuality to minors, has been seen by critics as discriminatory.

It has overshadowed preparations for the Sochi Olympics - a priority for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who wants it to show the country as a modern state with top-notch infrastructure.

"Lately there has been a lot of discussion and I am pushed by several sponsors about what will happen with this new law in Russia," IOC marketing chief Gerhard Heiberg told Sochi Games chief Dmitry

Chernyshenko. "Especially the American sponsors are afraid what could happen. This could ruin a lot for all of us.

"We are not there to try to change the law in Russia," he said during an official Sochi Games progress presentation to the IOC in the Argentine capital. more
The IOC is just being pathetic in this. It reckons it's not there to change Russian laws, but it's willing to go there and be a part of trying to make Russia look marvellous. I don't know either how the IOC can think it's OK for western Olympic attendees to not be subject to this law whilst outside the games everyone is. How does that fit in with the Olympic charter then?
