Silk worms

Daughter bought home some silk worms, well actually a lot of silk worms, in two shoe boxes from the child care centre where she works. The teachers are taking turns on the weekends to look after them, and because we have a mulberry tree out the back (which is evidently the only thing they eat) she got the short straw this weekend.

They munch through the leaves like there's no tomorrow. Here's a shot after just putting some leaves in there.

This is only about half an hour later. The dark stuff is their crap. You can hear them munching away if you put your ear over the top. They're very loud. She had to put them in the lounge room as in the night with them in her room all she could hear was this munching coming from the shoe boxes.
