They're stickers that you cut out and put on bumpers. Already they're starting to appear around Melbourne and been noticed by members of the public who have, needless to say, found it offensive to be joking about having AIDS. The company responsible, Uncle Reco fashion brand, instead of going "Oh we fucked up, we'll rectify the situation", have instead gone all defensive and said this bullshit:
The company’s staff appear to not be taking concerns about the sticker seriously. Responding to angry comments appearing on its Facebook page, a staffer typed back some stats about HIV rates among gay people, then claimed: “We actually have a gay male working with us and he was more than fine with the stickers. Homophobia is barely a problem anymore, the younger generation are very open about it.” moreWhat? Homophobia is "barely a problem anymore"? And WTF does HIV rates among inner city Melbourne gays have to do with anything? Or inner city Sydney gays for that matter? What they're saying is the tired old line that HIV is a gay disease. It's not, it doesn't discriminate. What about the mining workers who take Asian holidays and come back to Australia, fuck their wives and give them HIV? Does that mean HIV is a straight disease?
The company has the nerve to say there's little homophobia about in Australia, and then comes out with homophobia itself. They're also reinforcing a false stereotype that gays and HIV are one and the same, demonising the whole gay community. If that's not homophobic I dunno what is.
Yeah, hardy har har fuckwits. I'm not fuckin laughing.
