It was only 52 prescriptions a year. But I guess that changed somewhere along the way to 60 prescriptions a calendar year.
Can't stock up with anything as you have to wait 20 days between scripts.
Nearly didn't get it. The younger chemists seem to be unfamiliar with how it works. I gave my Disability Support Pension card to the lady at the prescription counter (it has both my and David's name on it as a couple) asking her to get the chemist to check the number of scripts done since Jan 1st as "we must be there by now". Went and sat down to wait for them to do it rather than do some shopping in case they had any questions.
My card was promptly misplaced, leaving a young chemist prescriber without it to check on the number. She came over asking to see my Medicare card, which I showed, and asked why? She claimed that David had to be on it for both our prescriptions to go toward the 60 scripts. A surprisingly stupid statement as I know it's completely wrong. My wife and I never had the same Medicare card for example and she got the safety net.
I explained to her somewhat frustratedly, that I'd given my DSP card with David's name on it. That we were a couple and he my carer. She knew nothing about the card and said it was fine with that. I was annoyed that I had to explain all this.
However they found it in the end and we are both now the proud recipients of Medicare safety net cards. Free prescriptions until Jan.1st :)
