Campbell Newman slashes and burns

The newly elected dictator of Queensland, Campbell Newman, has launched into a viscous attack on the public sector and the services it provides to the people of QLD. It has come up with some dodgy figures in regard to an alleged explosion of public sector workers under the previous Labor state gov, which an intelligent analysis of shows to be entirely flawed. Yet it's onward into the battlefront never the less, with a goal to sack up to 15,000 public sector workers (yes, that number again, 15,000 ). Fuck, that's a lot of people!

In their latest announcement (praised BTW by the Federal Opposition as "incredible courage") Newman has sacked 2754 public sector workers. "Public sector workers" generally conjures up images of people at desks in offices pushing paper back and forth. In this case though they're cuts to QLD hospital staff. These cuts are so drastic and deep as to prompt this response from the Federal health minister:

Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek said she was extremely concerned about the job cuts, saying that patient health was at risk.

Ms Plibersek said the cuts would most likely see fewer nurses and fewer hospital workers in areas like pharmacy and pathology.

The Health Minister also said the "heartless" cuts placed a question mark over federal funding, if health targets were not met.

"If these cuts mean longer waiting times in emergency departments and longer waits for elective surgery, Queensland risks losing $83 million in reward funding," she said.

I would not like to be getting sick up there. Fuck I'm glad I didn't decide to live up there. I wonder how QLD's HIV patients are feeling right now.

What gets me is how everyone up there is suddenly surprised at Newman's actions. In fact many people that he's firing now very likely voted for him. I mean FFS, did they honestly think they could give this fascist all power and it wouldn't go to his head? Did they not at least have a cursory study of what his policies were before voting for him? Fuck, voters up there wiped out the Labor opposition, what in the hell were they thinking?
