HIV ignorance

It's a media beat up I think, although she did use the word "disgusting". Well, ten points for honesty I suppose. At least it's better than many of the other gay critics who dress up their venom in religious or pseudo-scientific terms. 

The taxi driver recorded the hotel heiress having a conversation with a friend about a new mobile phone app that lets gay people meet up for random sexual encounters. 

"Gay guys are the horniest people in the world," Hilton is heard saying in the September 7 conversation. 

"They're disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS ... I would be so scared if I was a gay guy. You'll like, die of AIDS."

What disturbs me about her comments isn't the attitude she has about us, but more the ignorance. I mean the sweeping generalisations she makes are pretty pathetic for someone in such a public eye. 

Um, evidently being a very sexual person is "disgusting"? Pear dear, is she a bit frigid?

Or how about the assertion that most of us have AIDS? Fucks sake, other equally ignorant people are going to hear that and it will just reinforce the stereotype. 

Newsflash, most gays don't have HIV, and that includes places like eastern Sydney. HIV worldwide is a hetero disease, and even in Australia there's a bit of an outbreak in Western Australia from straight mining blokes. Some go on holidays up in Asia and have unprotected sex, then come back and infect their female partners. In contrast the gay community here behaves much more responsibly than that and keeps the infection rate steady within the gay community.

Also, just basic no brain facts. I've been infected with HIV for 4 years next month. I don't have AIDS. That's only when you get an AIDS related illness that they assign that label to you.
