Strangely I could see it coming. It's become instinctive to recognise a possible bashing. David is more so. We were in the open air smoking area of the Shift the other day ($4 beers all day you know) and I gave him a kiss.
It's a gay pub on Oxford St, in the middle of the "gay mile". It just happens to be right next to a bus stop and a main route into the city. When I kissed him he glanced at who might be looking on the bus.
A simple expression of love and affection becomes an exercise in hate/danger awareness.
