Australia needs a crisis to get people off welfare - Australian banker

Oh FFS.......

Ex official at Australia's Reserve Bank Ric Deverell, says that we're spending too much on "welfare and education" and that Australia needs an economic crisis to convince people that said overspending on such needs to be wound back. I kid you not:

The former public servant, who also worked in Treasury during the Asian crisis, agreed the problem was "the politics are just so corrosive", a trend he observed holding backs governments globally. 

"Everyone thinks about Howard and Costello as being fiscally conservative but there was actually a huge increase in tax spending during that period because they thought the revenue was real. 

"So really all you need to do is wind all of that back, but that goes to this point that it's almost impossible to take stuff away. You almost need a crisis. Part of the problem is Australia hasn't had a crisis so you can't do hard stuff." Australian Financial Revue

This will go down in the electorate, especially at the time of an election, like the lead balloon of Keating's when he proclaimed to all that "this was the recession we had to have". 

WTF is someone in the banking world doing telling me that I should be getting less? I wonder how many negatively geared properties he has on the books for example? How much has he got in the Cayman Islands? My point is that he's completely ignorant of my situation; someone who's got it all telling people with nothing to survive on less.

If the $trillions being hidden away by the wealthy around the world were paid tax on, gov's wouldn't be worrying about looking after the less fortunate in their community. 

As it is now we have the corporate "big end of town" not paying tax and telling us poor pawns that we have to survive on less because of that. Murdoch jumping up and down in the media about "welfare fraud", which in reality is rare and a pittance compared to the corporate fraud of paying no tax.

Apparently us on welfare are supposed to pay off the national debt a pittance at a time? Bullshit! Get those bastards ripping us off $bazillions to pay their fuckin tax!
