Guns bought legally - Orlando mass shooting

WTF?

Can't imagine what the friends and family of the Orlando mass shooting must be feeling right now. Needless to say at this time the thoughts of the LGBT around the world will be with them.


Personally I feel anger. Anger at the hatred and intolerance that religion brings to people of difference. Anger at the anti-LGBT rhetoric of late that makes it so easy for the haters to latch on to, and anger at the US system that allowed another nutter to buy guns and commit mass murder. A domestic terrorist. A man twice investigated by the FBI and who was able to buy weapons a week before the shooting.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the mayhem. 

"The armed attack that targeted a gay night club in the city of Orlando in the American state of Florida which left over 100 people dead or injured was carried out by an Islamic State fighter," ISIS said through its news agency. 

The nature of the Islamic State’s involvement in the carnage remained unclear. Mateen was not under investigation at the time of the attack. He had twice been investigated by the FBI since 2013 for possible terrorist ties, but no charges were brought, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ron Hopper said.

A portrait of Mateen as a violent, unstable man began to emerge. 

Mateen inflicted “physical and emotional abuse” on his wife during a brief marriage that ended in 2009, the woman’s dad in Edison, N.J. told the Daily News, asking not to be named. 

Mateen had worked as a security guard and was licensed in Florida to carry a firearm, Florida records show. He legally purchased the handgun and a long gun used in the massacre within roughly the last week, an ATF official said. ninemsn
